Nanfang Hospital, Southern Medical University
Nanfang Hospital, the first affiliated hospital of Southern Medical University, was founded in 1941 as the First Affiliated Hospital of the First Military Medical University. Renamed in 2004 after the university's transition to civilian administration, it has grown into one of southern China's most comprehensive Grade III Level A hospitals. The hospital operates over 2,500 beds and handles more than 4 million outpatient and emergency visits annually, with a staff exceeding 4,000, including numerous nationally recognized experts.
Clinically, Nanfang Hospital is defined by several nationally top-ranked specialties. Its Gastroenterology division is a national key discipline and a leading center for digestive disease management. The Nephrology department consistently ranks among China's best for kidney disease and transplantation. Orthopedics and Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery are both nationally renowned, the latter being one of China's earliest and most authoritative centers. Infectious Diseases, Hematology, and Hepatobiliary Surgery are additional strengths, all holding key national designations. The Pathology department is also a national key discipline.
